- Obesity : Too little or too much sleep affects your weight. According to a study, people who sleep for 9 to 10 hours are more prone to obesity.
- Back Pain : When you are experiencing back pain, you may not need to do your regular exercises. Consult your doctor for this. Doctors have now included oversleeping in the causes of back pain.
- Depression : Insomnia is most commonly associated with depression, while oversleeping accounts for 15% of people with depression. This in turn can make their depression worse. This is because regular sleep habits are vital to the recovery process.
- Heart Disease : About 72,000 women were included in the Nurses’ Health Study. A careful analysis of the data from that study showed that women who slept nine to 11 hours a day were 38% more likely to have coronary heart disease than women who slept eight hours a day. However, researchers have yet to identify a causal link between oversleep and heart disease.
- Higher Death Rate : Several studies have found that people who sleep nine or more hours a night have a significantly higher death rate than those who sleep seven to eight hours a night. No specific reason for this correlation has been determined. But the researchers found that depression and low socioeconomic status are also associated with longer sleep. They speculate that these factors may be related to the observed increase in mortality for people who sleep a lot.
