Generally there are three types of skin, normal, oily and dry. Out of these, dry skin creates more problems, so dry skin needs special care, when the skin becomes lifeless and white flakes appear on the skin, then the skin is called dry skin.

Causes of Dry Skin

1) Harsh Soaps

The main reason for dry skin is the use of detergents and harsh soaps. If your skin is already dry and you frequently wash your face and skin with face wash or harsh soaps, it makes your skin more dry.

2) Hypothyroidism

If you are a patient of hypothyroidism, your skin may become dry. In fact, low levels of thyroid hormones reduce the amount of oil produced by the skin, due to which the skin becomes dry.

3) Allopathic Medicines

The use of certain types of medicines like allopathic medicines and their side effects, cause dry skin.

4) Skin Diseases

Skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema often occur in people who have more dry skin, so if you are suffering from any disease like psoriasis or eczema, it makes your skin dry.

5) Age Factor

With increasing age, the skin becomes dry. In fact, with aging, the production of collagen in the skin starts decreasing, due to which the skin starts becoming dry.

6) Hot Water

If you take bath with very hot water then your skin starts getting dry. When the skin comes in contact with hot water, the skin layer gets affected, due to which the skin starts becoming dry.

Pay attention to these special things to prevent dry skin.

  • Eat a balanced and nutritious diet. Use more fruits and vegetables containing vitamin-C in the diet.
  • Before going outside or in the sunlight, apply sunscreen to the skin with good company.
  • To remove dryness of the skin due to medicines, drink plenty of water and consume more fresh fruits, salads etc.
  • Use soft and soft clothes instead of warm and hard clothes.
  • Exercise daily. Actually, exercising causes sweating, due to which natural oil comes out from the pores of the skin, this oil is helpful in providing moisture to your face.
  • Use mild (creamy) soaps instead of harsh soaps.
  • Take a bath only once a day and use cold water instead of hot water for bathing. In winter, you can use lukewarm water instead of hot water.
  • Always apply a good moisturizing lotion or cream to the skin before and after swimming in the swimming pool.

Home Remedies for Dry Skin

Aloevera

Aloe vera has moisturizing properties, which are helpful in keeping dry skin soft by providing moisture to the skin. Apart from this, many medicinal properties like anti-inflammatory are found in aloe vera, which help in reducing the effects of skin problems like eczema. For this, you should first cut the aloe vera and apply its fresh gel on your skin before sleeping at night, so that it dissolves well in the skin. Apart from this, you can also use aloe vera gel available in the market.

Honey

The skin becomes dry due to the change of seasons. In this case, you can use honey on the skin. Actually, honey, by providing moisture to the skin, is helpful in removing dryness of the skin. For this, keep honey on your face for 10 minutes and then wash your face with cold water.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil helps in providing moisture to the skin naturally. Apart from this, moisturizing properties are found in coconut oil, which helps in keeping dry skin soft. You can use coconut oil after taking a bath. Apart from this, you can apply coconut oil on the skin every night.

Glycerin

Glycerin moisturizes the skin, prevents dryness and helps to keep the skin soft and supple for a long time. For this, mix rose water in glycerin and apply it on your dry skin and leave it for a few hours and then wash the face with cold water.

Ginger

You can use ginger as a home remedy to get rid of dry skin. In fact, ginger has antioxidant properties, which are helpful in keeping the skin youthful and soft by reducing the effects of aging of the skin. For this you extract ginger juice and then make a paste by mixing honey and rose water in ginger juice. Apply this paste on the face and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Afterwards wash the face with cold water.

Curd

Curd helps in providing moisture to the skin. Actually, the lactic acid present in curd helps in destroying the bacteria that cause dryness or irritation on the skin. For this, gently massage your face with fresh curd and leave it on the skin for 10 minutes. After that wash the face with water.

Treatment For Dry Skin

In general, to treat dry skin, doctors recommend applying a moisturizing cream or lotion, which can restore the lost moisture of the skin. But if a person has a serious problem of dry skin, even after these home remedies and after using moisturizing creams or lotions, the dryness of the skin does not go away, then the doctor will based on the investigation of the reasons for dryness of the skin.
