Is rice good to eat in Thyroid ?

You should not eat rice at all in thyroid.  If you are fond of rice, then instead of white rice in your diet, you can add brown rice.  Many people also eat rice in thyroid, but experts do not advise to consume it.  Rice contains gluten protein which can be harmful for you during thyroid.  Gluten is a protein that reduces the antibodies present in the body and there is also a problem of thyroxin hormone being irregular due to gluten.

Side effects of eating rice in thyroid

  • Rice is high in starch, due to which rice gets digested quickly and you feel more hungry.
  • The amount of fat in rice is also more than that of roti, if you are a patient of thyroid disease, then avoid rice.
  • Rice is low in carbohydrates and high in calories, while roti has fewer calories than rice.
  • Eating rice can cause metabolic syndrome, which increases the risk of type 2 diabetes and stroke along with thyroid in the body.

The amount of calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium in roti is more than rice, while these minerals are found less in rice.  Roti has a higher amount of micronutrients and fiber than rice, so you should give preference to roti instead of rice in the right diet.

Precautions while eating rice in thyroid

If you have thyroid disease or thyroid symptoms, but you are fond of eating rice, then take these precautions like you can eat vegetable casserole instead of plain cumin rice or plain rice, which reduces the amount of rice and through vegetables.  Get more fiber in your body.  You can eat brown rice or red rice with mixed vegetables. 

If you are eating plain rice then you can take rajma, chole, peas with it.  Instead of eating plain rice, eat it with protein-rich vegetables.  While cooking rice, add a teaspoon of coconut oil to it and keep it in the refrigerator, then use it after cooling, then the rice starch will go into the body and act as fiber and its calories will also decrease.
